Pathway to Destiny

Seleq shook his head. He walked into the kitchen and watched the staff work. They were the only people Sertoff had left un-charmed in the entire kingdom it seemed like. The last bastion of hope was that rebellious wizard. The wayward prince, anything to avoid real work. Hiding out here hoping he doesn’t have to pick up his father’s crown, knowing it’s too heavy for his head to wear. If Sertoff hadn’t charmed the inhabitants of Haven, there would be bar scuttle at least of what was going on. News on the wind of an attack as it drew near.
Sertoff had control of everybody. He could see through their eyes, and control their thoughts. Seleq had never seen it done on such a massive scale. The only problem is, Sertoff doesn’t share what he sees or what he knows.
If only Jonothan didn’t work for Mark, he could go hide out there. Hide from the madness he had to witness everyday. Sertoff was obsessed at winning, but you could be sure Mark was far more so. Also he and Mark had not parted friends.
He tried repeatedly to talk to Harley, but Harley was far too comfortable and secure in his position. He didn’t want to talk about anything controversial. What did he care what mad men did? He was called a madman himself for his love of technology. Let them be mad, and maybe greatness will come of it.
Seleq longed for the days when he was considered the mad one. Hiding out in his cave with his band of Lost Men. The abandoned and derelict of society. The friendless, familyless, and homeless. It was a simpler time, when all they required was food and shelter. The rumors kept them from being bothered, and zaria forest mushrooms had a drugging effect on anyone who walked by. He could go back there, but he understood Harley’s need for comfort all too well. He didn’t want to go back to hunting his own food.
