“Thanks to Evan’s parents civic lesson, we know it’s vampires.” Aaron glanced out the window of the treehouse towards the house.

“Quite a stroke of luck that was getting punished for sending messages in government. Or we’d never know what happened to ‘Icky’ Eileen Matton.” Jeremy added.
“You can’t just call her ‘Icky’ anymore, it’s disrespectful.” Mandy sadly glanced at the floor.
“Mandy’s right.” Rodney stepped up. “We’re as much to blame as that Vampire. We never treated her as anything but an outcast. For all we know, we drove her that way.”
“It’s true.” Mandy pouted. “If any one of us would have bothered to be her friend we could have avoided this whole outcome.”
“Or at least have saved her.” Max stood up and walked to the center of the treehouse.
Max’s mother called up from below, “Max, Martin wants his treehouse. You and your friends come inside and talk. I made some fresh pigs in a blanket, and there’s a pitcher of milk with them on the kitchen counter.”
“Come on.” Rodney pushed the rope ladder down the hole in the floor. “We can talk about this at the church camp out next week.”
“Yeah.” Jeremy agreed. “Then we can come up with a plan.”
