Teenage Ghost

Rhonda looked at the clock. Time seemed to move so slowly the past few days, but it was finally Wednesday. It was finally five o’clock in the evening.
She had driven to Apple and Grove right after she left Fortuness. She knew it was an Elementary school. So many parents would be there, and she would have to fit in. She planned to go late and sit in the back somewhere.
Now that it was time, she wanted to go early. If they asked her which was her child, she could always say Jeff. Surely there was a Jeff in the play.
Rhonda paced in the living room and stared at the barely moving clock. She breathed out a heavy sigh and grabbed the car keys.
She drove to the local Castle Creamery, and ordered a small vanilla ice cream cone. She sat down and watched the cars go past as she slowly ate. Before she knew it, it was time to go.
She felt nervous and excited at the same time. Then she calmed herself down and reminded herself that maybe nothing would happen. She took a breath and put the keys in the ignition. Her hands were a little shaky as she set them on the wheel, but she was determined to go.
She drove around the packed parking lot three times before deciding to park on the street. The nearest space she could get to the school was still a two block walk. She walked briskly to the school, trying not to perspire.
When she got inside the lights were all out in the auditorium, there were no more seats, and the play had already started. She stood in the back with a few other late stragglers. The entire mass was a sea of electronic back lights from the phones taking videos of the performance.
The play was about the presidents of the United States of America.
