Teenage Ghost

Vi stood up from the front porch when she saw the car pull into the driveway.
Rhonda didn’t bother to pull up any further when she saw the dark figure lurking at the entrance of her house. She thought about putting the car in reverse and leaving. She felt as if the figure was a strange ominous presence.
Vi scoffed and walked out so the street light could shine on her. She set her hands on her hips and tilted her head sideways at the scared woman in the car. “You think you’re scared now?” Vi muttered under her breath, and glared. “Just imagine if I showed up in the locked back seat of your car all of the sudden.”
Rhonda turned off the car at the sight of the teenage girl, then slowly unlocked and opened the car door. “Can I help you?” she called out.
Vi rolled her eyes and shouted back, “I want to talk about Jeff. You’re his mom, right?”
Rhonda let out a sigh of relief and unlatched her safety belt. “Yes, of course.” she stepped out of the car. “Would you like to come inside?” Rhonda motioned to the kitchen entrance.
    Vi shrugged, “Whatever.”
Vi followed Rhonda into the kitchen. She looked around at the cozy surroundings and became jealous of Jeff. Only he could find such comforting surroundings for an afterlife. Even in death he could find a loving home and family. No dirty restrooms for him, no, not for the golden boy Jeff.
“Can I get you something to drink?” Rhonda offered.
“No.” Vi pulled a chair out from the kitchen table and sat down. “Have you seen Jeff since he disappeared?”
Rhonda didn’t answer right away, when she did reply it was slow and unsure. “No, have you seen him?” She filled a glass with cold water from the tap.
“You’re sure you haven’t seen Jeff?” Vi pushed again.
Rhonda turned around slowly with the glass in her hand, the water inside sloshed a little from her shaking. “Why do you ask?”
