Teenage Ghost
Emily pulled out her phone and texted Brenda and Jennifer to meet at the gas station.
Josh texted Vi, but got no reply.
Janus went in the store and bought some soda and chips for the group.
Lore and Jennifer walked up holding hands.
Emily ran to Jennifer and hugged her, “I’m so glad you’re okay. I’ve never been so scared in my life! What was that thing?”
Jennifer replied meekly, “I don’t know.” as she let go of Lore’s hand. Jennifer struggled to get free from Emily’s hug. As soon as she was free from Emily’s grasp she called out to Lore, “We have to go back.”
The entire group looked at her in disbelief.
“We have to get my dad’s stuff back.” she said in desperation. “He doesn’t know it’s missing.” She was almost in tears now, “I’ll be in so much trouble!”
Josh looked back at his phone. Still no reply from Vi. “She’s right.” he said firmly without taking his eyes off the phone screen. “We have to go back for Vi.”
“Let’s wait for Jarzon and Brenda,” Lore said. “Safety in numbers.”
“They aren’t coming.” Emily replied and held up her phone to him. “He’s walking her home and they are watching some random horror vid.”
Lore shook his head. “I’ll get you your stuff Jennifer. I’ll break into the school tomorrow morning and get all the stuff out.”
“NO!” she screamed at him with terror in her eyes. She might be afraid of whatever was in the stairwell, but punishment for breaking rules would mean she never got to see Lore ever again. She was far more afraid of loosing him than the darkest demon she could think of. “He’ll know. My dad. He’ll know it’s missing! My mother will know we did something wrong. She’ll just know!”
Lore walked over to Jennifer and took her in his arms. “I promise you they wont know.” He hugged her tight, but she was rigid with stress. He tried to calm her, “I’ll walk you home, we’ll get some ice cream. I think we can still get candy in my neighborhood past nine.”
“And what about Vi?” Josh said angrily.
Lore shrugged, “Vi can take care of herself. If she hadn’t started this mess, we wouldn’t be in it.”
“He’s right.” Emily piped in. “Who’s idea was the séance? It was Vi.” she walked over and took Jennifer’s hand. “I know how to keep your parents off your back for the night. How about a sleepover? I can sleep over at your house, that way we can keep an eye on your parents and keep them from noticing anything.”
Lore exclaimed in relief, “That’s a perfect idea!”
Jennifer smiled and felt a little more at ease. She relaxed in Lore’s arms.
“It’s settled then.” Emily let go of Jennifer’s hand and walked over to Josh. “Right?” she asked him.
“It doesn’t really matter what I think does it?” he answered her. “You’re going to do whatever it is you want to do. I’m not going to stop you.”
“But you’re going back for Vi.” Emily retorted and then glanced at Janus. “What about you, in or out?”
“I’m going with Josh so he doesn’t have to go alone.” Janus said.
“Have fun.” Emily waved and walked off with Lore and Jennifer towards the Frosty Treat.
