Teenage Ghost
Addie Stone drove her american made compact car into the empty parking lot at Studemont High. She breathed in the fresh air and listened to the birds singing to each other in the trees. The lawns were perfect, the parking lot was clean. She smiled, this was going to be a wonderful year.
She chuckled to herself as she got out of the car. She had been dreading this all week. How silly she had been. Addie walked to the back of the car and opened the trunk to take out her box of personal items.
This was the first year she was going to be principle of a high school. For the past seven years she had been principle of a private school. She had heard terrible rumors about public schools.
They had told her stories of mentally unstable students who attacked teachers and faculty without hesitation. Stories filled with graffiti laced walls and destroyed hallways. She had been warned about students carrying weapons to school, selling drugs, and having sex in the stairwells.
Studemont High School was a serene, peaceful setting. It was nothing like the horror stories she had been told.
Addie drew in a deep breath and slowly exhaled.
Her good mood followed her past the front gates, through the courtyard, and into the office front entrance. Then vanished as she stared at complete chaos.
Addie’s jaw dropped as everywhere she looked was disarray and disorder. Chairs were overturned, the desks that were not bolted to the ground were all on their sides. The drawers to all the desks laid emptied and scattered through out the room.
Admission slips, detention slips, absence excuse forms, and all other paperwork carpeted the floor. Addie walked slowly over the mess and made her way to the principle’s office.
She was not surprised to see the room in complete discord. She was however intrigued by a single file left on the top of the desk. Addie picked up the file and opened it. The chief maintenance man Dan Holbert.
