Teenage Ghost

Officer Donelson radioed in to the station. He requested the information for the principle of Studemont High School. He requested that an officer be sent to the address of the principle when they found out who it was.
He barked angrily into the radio mic, “If you saw what was going on down here you would know a simple phone call would not suffice!”
Cheryl and Dan looked at each other, as they heard Officer Donelson on the police scanner. The greasy fast food they had been eating got tossed out of the open van door. Dan jumped behind the wheel of the News Twelve van and started the engine.
Cheryl closed the van door and jumped in the passenger seat. The two buckled their seatbelts and lurched into motion. Cheryl pulled down the sun visor and began messing with her hair in the mirror.
“Live from Studemont High School.” she repeated differently into the mirror as she primped.
“We’ve got fifteen minutes.” Dan said as he looked from the online navigator to the freeway entrance ramp.
Cheryl pulled out her purse and began applying her makeup quickly. “I’m standing outside Studemont High School.” she pursed her lips together to make the mauve lipstick blend.
“You look perfect.” Dan said as he rounded the corner and neared the school.
“Look at all that smoke!” Cheryl gasped as she glanced at the black sky. “How can it be?”
Dan ignored the sky and kept his eyes on the road. There would plenty of time to see the sky later, once he was out on the ground. Once his camera was in hand and he was shooting, as Cheryl said ‘Live from Studemont High School’. He parked the van a short distance away from the crowd of onlookers. He didn’t want to tip off the authorities they were there til he was already filming.
    “Ready?” Cheryl looked at him.
“You’re gorgeous babe!” Dan said with a smile. He rushed to the back and grabbed the charged camera off it’s mounting.
The two rushed near the scene, but were taken aback by the size of the blaze. “I don’t understand.” Cheryl breathed. The heat from the fire felt as if it would melt her caramel hair extensions.
The fire was so broad and high, it was impossible to be so huge. The schools wing was mostly rubble except for the two ends still standing. And the fire raged uncontrolled between those ends. It danced and laughed, as if it was taunting the world. It raged as if it was at war with the entire human race, and it knew it would win.
Dan started recording the scene. Now was the time to see the smoke, the fire, now was the time to see all there was to see.
