Teenage Ghost

Vi walked the familiar halls of Deerborne High in search of suitable gang recruitments. Her friends from last year had both gone to separate schools after the accident. There seemed to be very little bad girl element in the school this year. Vi couldn’t believe it. Out of the combined high schools and all that teenage rebellion and angst, there was not a single suitable friend.
She watched the girls in the mirrors and read their thoughts. Not a single girl was looking for trouble, not a one wanted to skip class. Vi was beginning to think she had slipped into an alternate dimension of some sort.
As a last resort she slipped into the library and heard a single thought.
“I wish something exciting would happen to me just once in my life, like Cynthia in this book.”
Vi walked past the autobiographies to the fiction section where she saw a meek looking girl sitting cross legged on the corner of the floor. Her black hair braided in perfect corn rows, her dark skin bore no make up of any kind. She had plain black glasses that took up almost the entirety of the top half her face. The teenager girl couldn’t be bothered to look up from her fairy tale of sorcery and magic.
“I love that book.” Vi said as she sat next to the girl. “You know that girl Ascott, Cynthia’s best friend? They only call her by her last name because her great, great grandmother was an evil witch that destroyed the town water barrel after they accused her of witchcraft and sentenced her to death. But you wont find that out til book fifteen, and they don’t have that book here anymore.”
“Why not?” the girl looked up from her reading.
Vi shrugged, “I don’t know. Someone probably checked it out and never returned it probably.” She held out her hand, “I’m Vi.”
“I’m Brenda.” the girl took Vi’s hand weakly and shook it.
Vi looked deep into Brenda’s eyes, “So can I come hang out at your house after school?”
Brenda’s face lit up, it had been a long time since she had a friend. “That would be great!”
The two new friends walked into a normal suburban middle class, one story brick home. There was a pool in the backyard, and at the time of their arrival Brenda’s brother Scott was cleaning the pool.
“He’s going to community college to be a bioengineer or something, I’m not really sure what. He’s good at chemistry.” Brenda explained as the two went to her bedroom.
Brenda’s bedroom was pink and lacy, there were horses and castles in every corner. She had paper machete crowns and masks full of glitter and glued on plastic jewels. The girl was actually quite talented, and Vi was impressed.
“These are the coolest things I have ever seen.” Vi pulled a light pink, tinted tiara off the shelf. “Can you teach me how to do this?” She put the tiara on modeled it for her new friend.
    Brenda smiled, “Sure.”
“Great!” Vi gushed quickly, “How about a slumber party this weekend? I can sleep over Friday.”
Brenda couldn’t believe the luck she was having today. She went from being a friendless loner for the past four years to suddenly having a best friend. “That would be great.” Brenda pulled a pink phone out her backpack. “Give me your number, I’ll text you as soon as I talk to my mom.”
Vi smiled a wicked smile of satisfaction and gave the girl her latest cell phone number.
