Teenage Ghost
Inja waved goodbye to her mother as she clutched her overnight bag tightly. Belenda, Jody, and Kiesha waved as well from the front yard of Belenda’s house. All four girls walked inside the house together, as if nothing was out of the ordinary.
Once inside they rushed to Belenda’s room and the makeover began.
Jody and Kiesha both brought their best outfits and accessories.
Jody was known for having unique handmade jewlery. She was a big supporter of the local artist. She was forever on some site buying this or that with her babysitting money. She had a great eye for it. Most handcrafted jewelry was gaudy or overweight. The artist was a beginner, or someone just trying to unload their hobby for what they paid into it. Jody always seemed to have the best luck at finding well crafted pieces for a bargain. She had her favorites, of course. Mainly her finds were one shot wonders from artists who never aspired to that level of greatness again, or maybe they were just lucky that one time.
Kiesha’s mom was a buyer for the hottest fashion store in the uptown mall. All her clothes were bought at wholesale, so she had everything. She had it in every color too. In her house she and her mother both had spare rooms that were nothing more than walk in closets. Kiesha wrote a fashion blog and kept a make up tutorial video account. If you wanted to look hot or cool, sweet or smart Kiesha was who told you how to do it. Her life plan was already mapped out, and had been since junior high school. She was going to Hollywood where she would be the best makeup artist slash wardrobe buyer the town had ever seen. Her name would be in the credits of all the best television shows and movies. Kiesha Braun, make up and wardrobe.
The pop music blared, and the cellphones were used to the point of battery drainage. Too many texts, selfies, and postings on social media about “How does this look?”. The girls in the end took turns charging their phones and using them. After feedback from over half the cheer squads they had it narrowed to two outfits, and three hairstyles.
Inja took a deep breath closed her eyes and pointed to the screen with different hands.
The three girls smiled in agreement and the transformation began.
