Vampires
Jeremiah and Viktor met with Augustus’s clan in an abandoned warehouse in the inner city they were staying in. The two had been sent by Alfonz to recruit the clan into the fold. Alfonz did not trust Jeremiah so he sent Viktor with him, to make sure the message was delivered.
Jeremiah explained to Augustus after describing the compound, “It was Elizabeth’s plan.”
“I’m aware.” Augustus let out a short breath. “So this Alfonz wants us to join forces and what? Wipe out mankind? Has he thought of the implications.”
Utheus shifted his weight and glanced at Argon, the two smiled wickedly at each other.
Augustus pretended to ignore the two and continued his lecture. “That is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Removing the diversity of the food supply, or removing it completely is irresponsible.”
“We have an endless supply of virgin blood.”, Viktor explained. “We have a controlled crop for breeding and..”
“And what if something goes wrong?” August asked quickly. “What if they develop some strange disease and there is no cure. Are we to starve to death then, because you have wiped out the entire race?”
“We take every precaution. They are laid out motionless on machines, no harm can come to them. Constantly monitored.” Viktor continued.
“For how long?” August asked in disbelief. “How long until safety protocols are lapsed or ignored. Until vampires become lazy or slovenly. You forget how the mind bores of doing the same thing over and over day after day.”
“I do NOT!” Viktor interrupted him. “I am well aware of what monotony can do, it can bring about mistakes and carelessness in the best of men.” He glanced at Jessica and added, “and women.” He returned his attention to Augustus, “We will have another processing facility, and then another, and another.”
Augustus shook his head. “No. I can not agree to this.” he turned to his clan. “This plan will lead to the eventual destruction of our kind. The worst kind of death a vampire can endure is starvation, for it’s pain is eternal. Death is a wish never granted. You have no strength to move, there will be no end to your agony. All by our own hand, by our own doing.” He shook his head again, “No, I tell you. We can not be part of this.”
