Vampires

Viktor walked into the bedroom Jeremiah was staying in. He sat down in the easy chair near the window. “Will you not come to keep an eye on your comrades, Utheus and Argon?” he questioned.
“They are not my problem, they are yours.” Jeremiah was done babysitting the trouble twins.
“They will not be a problem.” Viktor looked out the window at the two new recruits fist fighting each other in the back yard. Fighting, that was all they knew. It was all they wanted. What would they do when there was nothing left to fight against? Maybe Augustus was right about the balance of things not getting upset.
Viktor turned to Jeremiah, “You do not agree with the war?”
“No.” Jeremiah said plainly as he looked over. “I don’t think you know what can happen, or what you’re up against.”
“You mean the hunters?” Viktor leaned forward.
“They are real.” Jeremiah stood up and walked towards Viktor. “You can’t touch them. Sometimes, you can’t touch something they have touched.”
    Viktor’s interest was sparked.
Jeremiah almost sounded as if he were going to remember an old romance, “I followed one once. From a distance.”
“What do you know of them?”, Viktor inquired quickly before emotion clouded logic.
“They haven’t changed much since the seventeen hundreds…” Jeremiah then stopped abruptly. “But you wouldn’t know about that. You weren’t turned until the second world war.” Jeremiah reconsidered his advice.
Viktor’s demeanor began to slowly change. He’d heard of this from Alfonz over and over. How the so called ‘Elder Vampires’ didn’t think any twentieth century vampire worthy of continuing the blood line. “You would deny me life saving information because of my circumstance? Perhaps this Elder Line prejudice is more than just one of Alfonz’s paranoid fantasies.”
“Maybe.” Jeremiah wasn’t sure himself. He was sure he didn’t feel that Viktor was worthy of his help. “If it is war, then I am on the side of humanity. Why would I aid the enemy?” Jeremiah didn’t want to tell Viktor how to defeat the humans, he wanted them to have a fighting chance.
