Original X-roads-2003

Sertoff walked past us and I turned to watch him walk out into the darkness until he was gone.
“You’re friends with Sertoff?” I asked.
“Sit down, Rule Breaker.” Seleq motioned to the seat Sertoff sat in. “Take her friend to the Pit.” he waved the others off.
The crowd began to shout and hoot in joy and they carried Jamie off back out into the forest towards the Pit.
Once the noise had completely faded into silence Seleq turned to me. “Did you ever hear the tale of the black knight?” he asked.
“No.” I replied. Through history and civilization there was always a black knight, though the story was never the same.
“The Black Knight was a member of the Kings Guard. Known for the armor he wore being made of solid black. This Knight was known for doing the ‘dirty’ work for the King. If someone needed killing, it was the Black Knight they saw last. He had a fortress castle on the outskirts of the kingdom, to discourage invaders from that part of the land. One day he was out riding across the countryside, and he saw this young girl off at a distance. He did not see her face, just the radiant glow the sun bounced off her and the innocent nature of what she was doing. Picking flowers in her peasants dress, enjoying the life she had been given not giving a care or worry to the world around her. He fell in love with the girl at that very moment he saw her standing there. He knew he had to marry her, but he was the Black Knight and who would marry their daughter to such a monster.”
I shifted my weight and let out a sigh of discontentment, but he continued on with his story.
