Original X-roads-2003

I glared at him, “How can you be so callus? They all have families, homes, girlfriends, wives, they’re someones’ sons. And you expect me to play God with them.”
“You’re not playing God.” he scoffed. “You’re not playing anything, you’re trying to win a war. It’s a war, people die. The sooner you realize that the less pain you’ll face.”
“I don’t want to live without the pain.” I looked at him carefully. “I don’t want to be like you.”
He sat up and grabbed my face, “Don’t think you’re better than me assassin. You kill for a living too, don’t you forget that. Just because you don’t see their faces or know their families doesn’t make you any less of a killer.” he let loose.
“But I wouldn’t shoot people for no reason.” I glanced at the door.
“You’ll learn.” he drank from the flask.
“How did I get men when no one knows who I am?” I looked at him.
He set down the flask and looked at me as if I was stupid, “You think people don’t know who you are?”
“How would they know?” I said in abatement.
    He smirked.
I closed my eyes and rolled them, “Figures.” I muttered. “So how did I get them? I’m sure they didn’t all rush up to join on their own accord.”
“They’re a present.” he leaned back.
I looked at him closely, “I don’t know if I should be happy or appalled.”
“I don’t see how having them is going to do me any good, the Emperor doesn’t think women should be allowed in battle.” I uncapped my flask and took a small sip.
He half laughed, “He wont stop us.”
    “Can I see them?”
He looked at me in mild surprise, “Right now?”
“Your call.” he said as he stood up.
I followed him to the door, he opened it. The soldier he had shot was no longer on the ground, and all of the blood had been cleaned up.
“I see the Emperor got my message.” Sertoff remarked as we walked out into the hallway.
