Original X-roads-2003
Zahran Fordge was the leader of everyone who stayed here, and he took special interest in Meseet always. Though he himself never spent any time with Meseet personally. He was always informed on her whereabouts, always knew of her comings and goings. He had spies, and even employed some of her closest friends as confidants so he could know her thoughts and feelings on every subject. He guarded her closer than a daughter, and made no secret of it.
Meseet knew he did it because it had something to do with Jonothan and the satellites that were launched shortly after she had arrived. She hadn’t seen Jonothan since then, and there was talk that he was the reason the satellites launched. She couldn’t understand why, and all she knew of Jonothan was what Jamie had told her.
The day she saw Jonothan standing behind her, she had thought to run. She had made the mistake of looking at the reflection of his eyes in the store’s glass. She didn’t remember much after the glowing blue from his eyes, it was all sort of hazy and blurry in her memory. He had taken her to Zahran Fordg directly, spoken a lot of words that she did not remember. Then she was taken to her new family and met the boy who would become her little brother, Roth.
She hadn’t seen much of Roth since she turned sixteen and had gotten her own compartment. When she last saw him he was working on the Vegetable Territory, growing lots of fresh leafy orange lettuce and other edible orange plants. She had been growing Blood Potatoes and Skint Beets, along with other underground plants. It was back breaking work, morning til night. The blue sun was not strong enough to sustain life.
