In the Future…
I was shown to my room, which was furnished nicely. The closet held clothes all in my size, and I was guessing the current fashion. I sort of liked everything about the place. The colors were all colors I liked looking at. The clothes all looked like clothes I wanted to wear. The artwork on the walls were interesting to me and I liked looking at them. “How do you know my size?” I asked him as I pulled out a shirt from the closet.
“I know a great deal about you.” Mark kept a respectable distance while he watched.
I passed him a distrusting look.
“I know you’re uncomfortable with that. For you knowledge is power, to know something about someone is to use it for your advantage. You’re right. People have weaknesses. They also have strengths.” Mark walked further into the room, but kept his distance. “Love is also a strength, and knowing your partner intimately.” he paused. “Knowing their thought before they think it, their move before they make it. It brings stability and reliability. You can relax and rely on the other person when you know them.” He glanced out the window, “And know their limits.”
I felt uneasy.
“I’ll let you settle in. There are many things to see in the city. You won’t be able to find them on your own. I’ll be your tour guide until you can find your way around.” Mark walked out of the room.
