Original X-roads-2003

Meanwhile in the present…

Time began to stand still for Casandra. No day differed from any other day. She no longer had a will of her own. Mark controlled her completely like a marionette.
Casandra had spent so little time with Jasylin and the others she knew little of their strengths and weaknesses.
From what he could discern, Jasylin was fairly jaded and lonely. Jamie was an opportunist, who preferred leisure to work. Mesiaha fit the empty headed knight type, more brawn than brains quick to act first. Zariaha, her sister possessed wisdom and knowledge though she remained meek and timid, unsure of her self and unable to make decisions. All unseasoned in battle. Only Zariaha and Mesiaha had any sort of formal training. Jasylin and Jamie were nothing more than street vermin. They were perfect for a disposable rebel force, but never an elite fighting squad.
Mark thought about it day after day, as he watched the troops beside Casandra. These misfits had no place on the battle field, why were they chosen?
Also why was Jabetto allowed to tag along? He is a contract spy. Whom was he spying on? The Sertoff he knew would never have allowed a spy within his midst. He’d never known Sertoff to let a spy live, much less an assassin. An assassin with no known kills. Mark focused again on Jasylin. Those two just didn’t fit into the grand scheme of things.
