Original X-roads-2003
“You can kill him, now.” Mark motioned towards the helpless mound. “Or Jasylin can stay with me, for all of eternity for all I care. Just so long as you’re loyal to me, and I know where your loyalties lie. What better way to keep her at my side than the invisible chains of Love? I would never have to question her loyalty, she would willingly follow me wherever I go.”
“You can not love her!” Jonothan hissed.
“I do not have to.” Mark commented.
“Why do you want Jabetto dead? What difference does he make to you?”
Mark replied, “Only your actions mean anything to me. He’s already been paid for, he makes little difference either way.”
Mark walked out and left Jonothan with his conscience.
Jonothan looked at Jabetto and let out a deep breath. Jabetto never did anything to anyone, that he was aware of, but Mark wouldn’t want him dead if something wasn’t going on. Sure, he makes it look like it’s nothing, but nothing is ever nothing with Mark. He had no reason to kill Jabetto, he couldn’t even bring himself to think about the act of doing it even. Then he thought of Jas, and the idea of what Mark would turn her into. Another one of his soulless underlings, or maybe much worse. He couldn’t stand the thought of it, but he could stand the thought of killing an innocent much less.
Jonothan walked out of the door past Mark who leaned on the wall beside it.
“You can’t do it.” Mark remarked. “You still love yourself more than her.” Mark vanished after he said it into thin air without a trace.
Jonothan walked back into the room to rescue Jabetto, but he had vanished as well.
