Original X-roads-2003
It wasn’t long before a transport truck came out from the city and was heading down the road. The lights on the truck went off quickly and the engines shut off. A man in a Dawn Co uniform exited the truck and set a towel over part of the front of the truck. He hurried towards us, as if he was trying to protect us from some unseen horror.
“What are you two doing out here?” he said in a low voice as soon as he reached us. “You shouldn’t have left your Locaid sanctuary. It’s not safe out here, there’s rebel outposts full of cut throats. Transports get robbed all the time.”
“How do you know we’re not cut throats?” Meseet took offence.
“I saw you sneak out of the barrier, as did one of the guards.” he looked over his shoulder nervously. “I don’t know why, maybe he thinks you don’t matter after the Locaid Riots. But I don’t think you should be left out here to starve or die in the wastelands. It’s seventeen days on foot straight down this road to get to the next town. You will die of thirst in three, maybe four if you are lucky. There is nothing out here to sustain life.” He motioned back to the transport, “I have plenty of water, I even have extra food rations if you need them. It wont take but a nights drive to get to the next town if you ride with me. I covered the camera, they have no idea I am transporting you. You will be safe, I promise.”
“We need to get to Feldpost.” Meeset explained.
“I can only get you to Eit.” he shook his head.
“We’ll take it.” I started to walk towards the transport. “And I’d love some food rations, any you have to spare.”
