In the Future…

Meeset continued telling me everything she had learned while at the apartment. “Then right out of grade ten the placement center is ordered to give you employment immediately, wether it be temporary then permanent or permanent outright. Any further assistance you need, clothing, housing bill assistance, you see your living-life instructor. There is no more parental guidance, only guidance centers.”
The transport driver slowed the truck down, we were a few hours away from Eit still. “I want to show you something.” He stopped the truck, put a towel over the front and opened up the hood. After a while he closed the hood grabbed the towel and got back in. He drove off the road down into the sand and darkness.
Meeset and I looked at each other, we weren’t sure where we were going or why.
After a few hours time or driving through desert in the pitch black of night. The headlights of the truck illuminated a large section of what looked like antennas and satellite dishes. They were all pointed in the direction of Eit.
When we opened the door to get out of the transport, I got an instant headache from the electronic interference in the air. The air around the section was buzzing with a high pitched sound, it vibrated it was so loud.
The whole section would have taken the better part of a day to walk around. It was the size of a small town, and it was jammed packed with either antennas satellites with no room in between. I’d never seen anything like it. There was no building or shack near by for a control room. There was no explanation or signs near the area. There were also no cameras out here to watch the massive block of metal.
“What is this place?” I asked the transport driver.
He shrugged and looked at Meeset. “It’s known between the transport drivers. Some of us anyway, the trusted ones not the company guys looking to climb the corporate ladder. It’s an initiation into the brotherhood of us lower class. On our early runs we’re brought out here and shown this, in the daytime, so you can get a good look. There’s one outside every major city dome, all pointed in the direction of the city. Just one of those things. No one knows why, or how come. I was hoping you could tell me.”
