Original X-roads-2003
Through countless twist and turns we ended up finally underground. The dungeon was musty, damp, and dark, lit with a few torches. I could hear small rodent-like animals squealing and fighting with each other in the shadows. They walked past the first set of iron bars, which were open. This signifies that I’m going to be alone in here, then we reached the last set of bars. They shoved me past them and swung the door shut, the hinges squeaked in high pitched tone that hurt my ears. The sound echoed throughout the large darkness that was to be my home for a while. One of the guards stayed behind for a moment, “Don’t go anywhere.” he taunted. Then he turned and walked out through the first bars, closing them behind him. Two guards stayed there, standing at attention.
I glanced around at my new surroundings, it was a large cell. Obviously built to accommodate more than just one person, two benches stood on either side of the cell. Against the back wall were three make-shift beds, the covers covered in dirt and droppings. I rolled my eyes, “I refuse to be treated in such an inhumane manner.” I shouted to the guards.
They laughed to each other, “Thinks she’s a princess.”
“If it’s good enough for the Recths, it’s good enough for you.” the other shot back to me.
“The Recths?” I glanced around the room.
“The little furry animals that share your room.” the first turned and made faces at me, like I was a child.
I glared at his stupidity until he turned back around. I looked up at the ceiling, solid stone, solid iron bars, there was no escape from here. Well, there is an escape from here, it’s just not that obvious. Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and that’s the absolute truth.
Meanwhile…
The Emperor watched her with increasing desired interest as she was escorted out, “Bring the others to me.” he commanded Sertoff.
Sertoff nodded his head slowly and turned.
“One more thing, General.” he called to him.
Sertoff stopped and stood still.
“I will keep the women here.” his voice mellow.
Sertoff nodded again and walked out.
