Original X-roads-2003
Jonothan appeared outside the bars, “I got Mesiaha now.” he teased.
I glanced at him, “What are you trying to prove?” First Casandra, then Zariaha, now Mesiaha, what was he up to? I heard a commotion, soldiers were coming. I looked at Jonothan carefully, if he already had Mesiaha what were they doing coming down here.
“You next.” his eyes glowed brightly then he disappeared as the soldiers dashed to the first set of bars.
I glanced at them, then noticed Sertoff at the back.
Casually he strolled past them and waited as the first two opened the bars for him. I cringed slightly at the creaking noise, he entered alone and walked up to my bars.
I crossed my arms, “Didn’t want to stop him from taking Mesiaha, but you’ll try for me, huh?”
He reached in and grabbed my throat, pulling me to the bars.
I struggled against his grip, “Why don’t you think about getting them back, instead of killing me.” I gasped.
He dropped me to the ground.
I gasped for air and glared up at him, “You think killing me will keep him from taking me.” I scooted back further in my cell, out of his reach in time to see him kneel down. “And it would work too, don’t get me wrong.” I played up his ego. “But it doesn’t return anyone. If you were smart, you’d use me in a trade to get them back.” I tried to reason with him.
“You’d like that wouldn’t you?” he glared at me as he stood straight. “It’s not about what you like, Assassin. It’s about what I like, and I like you here.” he pointed to the ground.
“You like me here? In this dungeon?” I replied sarcastically, a feeble attempt to be witty.
Naturally, it was wasted on him. “You think he wants you?” he scoffed, “He wants to get to me.”
“To make you mad, because when you’re mad you make mistakes.” it was so repetitious, I had heard the line for years. Now it was my turn to say it, in the monotonous form I chose for it.
“I’m not impressed with your knowledge.” he replied nonchalantly.
I rolled my eyes, “Well maybe you’ll be more impressed when Jonothan has all four instead of just three.” I shot at him.
Sertoff grabbed hold of the bars tightly squeezing them, slowly he looked at me through his blonde hair. He took a deep breath, “Do you really think I wont come for you?” his words were soft and unnerving.
“That’s what he wants.” I tried to push the feeling out of my mind while I concentrated on the situation.
“Then he wont be disappointed.” his words turned back to the cold nature I was accustomed to. He released the bars and stood.
“You gonna tell me why?” I questioned before he could walk away.
“I can get the guard to unlock the door and show you.” he offered.
“Oh you sweet talker you.” I teased. I stood up and turned my back to him, “Go win your stupid battle.” I waved him off. I didn’t hear him walk away but I heard the bars squeak open and shut when he left. I wont even be here when he gets back, Jonothan will get me out while he’s away fighting. Well, that would be the safest bet. The next problem was… Was Jonothan going to play it safe?
