The Game

I glanced over at my cards and pulled a personal favorite, and one of my most powerful cards for there was no counter for it. The colors were faded out, in the center was the oval face of a blue man. His eyes and mouth were an upside down smile. Outlined in black, a single light blue tear ran down his face, white window was drawn into it to show reflection. The background of the card used to be a dark pink but had faded to a lighter shade. The only thing on the card not touched by time were the colors on the tear and the lettering. The lettering at the bottom of the card was in a normal font, it read Sad.
The woman turned on the man, how was he going to make her Happy when all life did was make her sad? She pointed out disappointment after disappointment that had occurred all through her life.
The man across from me narrowed his eyes and quickly slammed down a new card to the right of Happy. This card had a purple background and two men appeared to be dancing together on it. One wore black shoes, brown slacks, and a blue button up oxford shirt. He held the other man’s right hand as he leaned backwards slightly, his other hand waving frantically in the air. The other man wore a pink shirt and black slacks with black shoes, he also was leaned back and away from his partner waving his free hand in the air. Small parentheses were near the shoes and hands to indicate dancing. The skin of the men varied, the man in blue was orange and the man in pink was brownish grey. Their mouths were both open, and their heads thrown back in a laughing motion. The bottom of the card read Life in times lettering.
In the world below the man countered her quickly, pointing out all she knew of life was sadness, it was time she learned happiness. He tried to relate her that she needed a full life experience, not just half. He wanted to give her this thing she needed to be whole.
I slammed down a card quickly too to the right of my first, I didn’t even have to look at my stack to know where it was. Flames of red, orange, and yellow licked the edges of the card. In the center of the card a dark demon face cruelly smiled with a malicious grin. It’s dark horns curved til the sharp pointed ends faced each other. Only the spade end and a small portion of it’s tail were visible as it came out from over the demon’s head. Time had not touched the colors on this card, it was as crisp and glossy as it was the first day I played it. It was endued with a sort of power that ensured it’s quality never changed. It was as potent today as the first day it was played, and would be as potent til the ends of time. HATE was written in black in all capital block lettering.
The man across from me was not impressed with my choice of cards. “You know only two emotions, Sadness and Hate, and you play them both well.” He walked away from the table into the darkness.
The couple below faded into the distance.
     I had won this round.
