Pathway to Destiny

Meanwhile in the Present…

“We don’t have any choice but ta go back ta Jonothan.” Mesiaha complained after day three of not finding anything to eat in the Zaria forest.
The forest was barren of any wildlife, the trees themselves were drying out. They had been staying in the cave, it was the only place cool enough to sleep. It was also the only place with water left in the near vicinity. Their parents like all other villagers and townsfolk were part of Sertoff’s massive army.
All towns and villages now were patrolled by Sertoff’s sentries, looking to catch any draft dodgers. There was not a safe place to hide on the entire continent, unless it was Jonothan’s castle.
And the suns blazed hotter everyday, as if they were being pulled closer to the planet. It never rained, there were no clouds in the skies and the massive rivers that once carved out territories were now small streams. Many named rivers were now only dried up river beds, not even bones were to be scavenged anymore as the wild animals had eaten them before dying off months ago.
Zariaha and Jonothan’s combined power could make the rains to sustain the forest, but she was no longer with him. Neither could save this place alone, and it was quickly dying without their help.
Zariaha looked out at the dying planet she had grown up on, ‘Who was doing this and why?’ As much as she didn’t want to admit it, she knew she had to return to Jonothan.
Before the townspeople had all disappeared, the rumors were that the Underworlders were causing the weather.
“I wonder if we can find Han’Drax.” Zariaha said then began whispering a spell. Nothing came of it though, she was too weak from hunger. Perhaps she shouldn’t have given her last portion of food to Mesiaha six days ago.
