Pathway to Destiny
Harley ran the final environment tests on his latest creation. A single occupant jail cell, two hundred twenty seven feet under the surface of the Othesis Castle. There was no entrance or exit, you could only be teleported in or out. Cameras were embedded into the walls and ceiling. There was a bench for sleeping and a bathroom with a shower. The light inside could never be turned off, it was specifically requested by Sertoff. There was no means for entertainment either.
Harley worried that Jamie would go mad after a year of seclusion, but his concerns fell on deaf ears. Sertoff did not care about the mental well being of Jamie Rand, he only wanted him alive.
When the day for the transfer came, it was Mark who arrived to greet Sertoff.
“Where’s Jasylin?” Harley asked more to get a rise out of Sertoff than to know the actual truth.
“You still work for Jonothan.” Mark glanced over at him.
Sertoff was unmoved the entire time, he stood motionless and said nothing.
“Which means you still work for me, and I have to explain nothing.” Mark continued speaking and waved his hand forward.
Jamie walked forward, a metal collar protruded from around his neck.
“What’s that?” Harley demanded. “What’s that around his neck?”
Mark had never taken his eyes off Harley the entire time. “You’ve seen an inhibitor before.”
Harley gritted his teeth and said nothing. Yes he had seen it before, from the schematics he drew himself.
“You’ll be reunited with Jasylin soon enough.” Mark assured him, then turned to leave.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Harley called out, but received no response.
Sertoff had already teleported Jamie to his new home, and was walking back to the castle.
“How can you be so calm?” Harley chased after Sertoff.
Sertoff stopped walking and looked at Harley, “What do you suppose he is doing to her? Is he torturing her? Is she chained to a wall somewhere deprived of food and water? Do you think she enduring abuse of any kind under his watchful eye?”
Harley said nothing.
“Did you not see the state Jamie arrived in? Was a single hair on his head harmed? Was there even a bruise on his skin? Do you imagine he endured abuses before he arrived here?” Sertoff questioned.
“But Mark is known for….”
Sertoff cut him off, “Mark is known to use torture as a tool, he had no use for Jamie. He has no use for Jasylin other than to keep Jonothan in line. When Jonothan is no longer a factor, neither is Jasylin.” Sertoff said nothing for a few minutes, then stated, “And Jonothan is here.”
Harley got an uneasy feeling when he heard that. Were Sertoff and Mark working with the Underworlders to take out Jonothan once and for all?
